This blanket is partly (one quarter) made from virgin wool from the Gotland sheep, which was shorn by the Vikings who appreciated its high quality, and three-quarters from lamb's wool. Lamb's wool is the wool from the very first shearing of a sheep or lamb. It is particularly soft because the fibres are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is usually obtained from live sheep, mostly in spring, as a single piece if possible. After shearing, the wool is combed and fluffed up before being wonderfully dyed orange and spun into yarn. The Klippan Gotland blankets are then woven from this wool. Lamb's wool is said to be hardly scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer. Klippan does everything to ensure the blanket feels soft, which is why the lamb's wool is pre-combed again.
