This complex, white-pressed Burgundy cuvée made from Petit Meunier, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Auxerrois is already a grand German Sekt experience. It offers aromas of yellow and red fruits, orange peel, and vanilla notes from oak aging, rounded off by lightly smoked hazelnuts. On the palate, the Cuvée Louis is powerful and voluminous, invigorating and complex. With its grape combination, which is probably unique in Germany, this consistently dry Andres & Mugler Sekt offers sparkling pleasure at the highest level. The Andres & Mugler Cuvée Louis Brut Nature Organic Sekt is produced using the traditional method.

Cuvée Louis Brut Nature – Inner Values

12.0 % vol Alcohol

8.0 g/l Acidity

2.2 g/l Residual Sugar

Organic Sekt – How the Cuvée Louis Brut Nature is Made

The Burgundy grapes for this Andres Mugler Organic Sekt grow on mineral soils in the Palatinate, in Ruppertsberg, Deidesheim, and Maikammer. The cool winds from the nearby Palatinate Forest ensure a good acid structure in the early-harvested base wines, which is essential for good Sekt.

The quality philosophy of the Andres Mugler Sekt manufactory begins with meticulous soil cultivation and consistent greening. The vineyard work of Michael Andres and Steffen Mugler is pure craftsmanship, deeply rooted in a love for biodynamics. The rhythm of nature significantly influences their actions. For both, healthy soil, intact flora and fauna, and thus vigorous vines, are prerequisites for a healthy circular economy. They hand-harvest all biodynamically cultivated vineyards to bring the undamaged grapes to the Sekt estate in Ruppertsheim.

Here, Petit Meunier, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Auxerrois are gently pressed, because the gentler the pressing, the fewer tannins and wax from the grape skins enter the must, and the finer and more long-lasting the perlage in the Sekt will be. Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir are also gently pressed to avoid extracting the red color pigments from the skins, allowing white must to run off. Only about two-thirds of the juice present in the berries is pressed.

In the cellar, Steffen Mugler and Michael Andres give their Sekts time. The grapes are allowed to ferment slowly and undergo malolactic fermentation, in which the malic acid in the wine is converted into the milder lactic acid, giving the Sekt base wine a special mouthfeel and creaminess. The Chardonnay component is aged in barriques, which adds even more complexity to the cuvée. Compared to Cuvée Elena, Cuvée Louis is the more red-grape-dominant cuvée.

The following year, Cuvée Louis is bottled and given the tirage to initiate the second fermentation in the bottle. It then rests and matures on its fine lees for another year, being regularly ridded and the bottles gradually inverted, until finally, during manual disgorgement, the yeast plug is removed from the bottle, and the Andres Mugler Organic Sekt Cuvée Louis Brut Nature, without the addition of any dosage, rests in the bottle until "it's good when it comes out," as Steffen emphasizes.

Andres & Mugler – The Sekt Makers

The Andres & Mugler Sekt manufactory in Ruppertsberg was founded in 1989 by two friends and Palatinate winemakers, Michael Andres and Steffen Mugler. In the early years, base wines were purchased and turned into Sekt, but since 1993, only grapes from their own cultivation have been used for Sekt production. On a total of 17 hectares (7 hectares for Michael and 10 hectares for Steffen), the Sekt estate practices biodynamic viticulture, growing Riesling and white Burgundy varieties like Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, and Chardonnay, as well as Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir, in the best vineyards of the Palatinate. From these grapes, German Sekt with a distinctive, elegant style is produced using the traditional method. Sparkling wine from Germany at the highest level and in organic quality. In 2019, two Sekts were rated as very good for the first time at the Meininger German Sekt Award, followed in 2021 by the award from Eichelmann Deutschlands Weine as the best Sekt collection of 2021. Quite impressive. The Andres & Mugler Sekt estate is a member of "die Sektmacher" (The Sekt Makers), the association of traditional Sekt producers.

Organic Control Body DE-ÖKO-039 – German Agriculture

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0998/4960/1350/files/andres-mugler-cuvee-louis-brut-nature-2021_22293dfe-afb1-4299-8aed-f23815cc212b.jpg?v=1776144253
