Even though spring was rather cool and rainy, June saw a alternation of hot sunny days and rainfall. A hot summer and a rainy start to September demanded a lot of work from the winemakers. Fortunately, the weather gods blessed South Tyrol with a golden autumn with ideal conditions for the harvest. Thanks to targeted work in the vineyard, as well as the experience and care of the cooperative members of the Cantina Tramin, the numerous challenges of the 2023 vintage were mastered brilliantly. The white wines of the 2023 vintage are cool and delicate and impress with juicy freshness and crispness. The red wines, including the T Cuvée Red, are distinguished by elegance and finesse.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe vines for this Cantina Tramin wine, some up to 40 years old, grow on gravelly, stony limestone scree and loamy soils on hillsides from 400m, but mostly between 500-600m above sea level. They benefit from the Mediterranean climate during the day and cold downdrafts from the surrounding mountains at night. The grapes were harvested by hand in several passes at the optimal physiological ripeness, which varied depending on the grape variety, and brought to the winery in small containers. There, they were destemmed and further processed with gentle, long pressing. Fermentation took place separately for each grape variety at controlled temperatures (18-20°C) in wooden barrels of 30-40 hl, in which partial malolactic fermentation occurred. The must was clarified by natural sedimentation of the solids. Aging took place on the lees in large wooden barrels for almost a year. After blending and bottling, the wine matured for at least another 3 months in the bottle.
