On the nose, the Riesling Seeberg shows a subtly spiced stone fruit note, delicate in its aromatics, yet refined and understated. On the palate, the vintage once again reveals the tension that is expected, firstly from Riesling and secondly from the single vineyard! Pleasant, vibrant acidity, piquant-fruity taste, wonderfully full yet lean. Convincing length and aging potential - 2019 - 2036. Decanting recommended. The Loimer Riesling Seeberg pairs well with fatty fish like trout and spicy Asian cuisine.

Fred Loimer – Winemaking

The grapes for this Fred Loimer Riesling Seeberg Kamptal DAC come from the Ried Seeberg vineyard near Langenlois, where the Loimer winery is located. The vines, up to 65 years old, are Guyot-trained in biodynamically farmed hillside vineyards at 300-320 meters above sea level with sandy weathered soils, mica schist in the subsoil, and brown earth topsoil. The Riesling was harvested with a yield of 35hl/ha from mid-September to early October 2016 – naturally by hand, selectively in small 20kg crates. After 12-24 hours of maceration, whole cluster pressing followed, with spontaneous fermentation half in steel and half in used oak barrels. Slow fermentation at a maximum of 22 degrees. The aging took place first for 6 months on the full lees in oak barrels and then for another 4 months on the fine lees in steel tanks, before it was bottled in September 2017.

Grüner Veltliner Seeberg – a wine and its values

Origin Wine from Austria

Growing region Kamptal

Vineyard / Ried Seeberg

Grape variety Riesling

13.0% vol. The silvery shimmering mica schist, with inclusions of amphibolite, reaches the surface here. On top of this, silty-sandy weathered soils develop, mostly calcareous-free rock brown earths. It has long been known as a particularly good site and is therefore also classified as an ÖTW Erste Lage. It lies at 300 to 320 m above sea level in the Pannonian continental climate, which brings hot, dry days and cool winds from the Weinviertel.

2016 – the Wine Year

The weather in 2016 kept winemakers in the Kamptal on their toes for a long time, and it remained exciting until the very end. Due to the mild winter, vegetation started very early, leading to budburst and the first greenery by mid-April. However, in the last week of April, there was a cold snap with late frost. This resulted in 30% frost damage in Langenlois and Gumpoldskirchen. The late spring and summer months were characterized by muggy weather with much precipitation and occasional heatwaves. Biologically working winemakers were therefore very challenged in vineyard management. The unusually warm, sunny, and dry September finally ensured a harmonious end to the wine year. It helped the grapes achieve very good ripeness. The cooler nights at the end of the month led to optimal aroma development. Due to the weather situation, there was no time pressure during the harvest. The result was grape material with pronounced ripeness and nutrient supply. Work in the cellar proceeded smoothly. Healthy grapes with moderate sugar content produced clear, medium-bodied wines with beautiful varietal and regional characteristics.

awarded wine

95 Wine Enthusiast,

95 - 3rd Place Falstaff Ried Cup

94 Falstaff

94 wein.pur - Trophy Winner

94 JamesSuckling.com's Top 100 Austrian Wines of 2017

94+ A la Carte Grand Cru Riesling

93 Wine Advocate

91 Best of Riesling

4 Stars Vinaria Guide

Organic control body AT-BIO-402 – Austrian Agriculture

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0998/4960/1350/files/fred-loimer-riesling-ried-seeberg-2016_54f563cb-e98e-4e96-ad69-92bc93dfa450.jpg?v=1776144687
