The sardines come from careful fishing practices and are processed fresh before being preserved in organic extra virgin olive oil. The olive oil gently envelops the fish and contributes to the development of its flavor — without overpowering it. This preserves the texture and the fish's inherent taste.

Taste & Use

The taste is balanced: The sardines present themselves subtly salty, with a mild, tart olive oil note. The fillets are delicate yet firm to the bite. You can enjoy them directly from the can, combine them with crusty bread, or use them as an aromatic component in pasta, vegetable dishes, or salads. They also unfold their full potential as a protein booster with antipasti or on a bruschetta.

Storage & Portioning

The dosage is flexible: Whether as a snack, an intermediate meal, or a small addition to a main course — one portion is often enough. After opening, store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume them as soon as possible. The long shelf life of unopened cans makes these sardines ideal for stocking up and as an emergency reserve in your kitchen.

Aromatic organic sardines in olive oil – high-quality & flavorful gourmet preserve. Their Conserverie Gonidec is a family business that has been producing canned fish using traditional methods since 1959. The fresh sardines of particular quality, as well as other fish like mackerel and tuna, are caught off the coast of Brittany and then cleaned, cut, and carefully placed in olive oil by skilled hands in the cannery, preserving them in beautiful cans. In 1995, the cannery moved into new, modern production facilities. Many specialties and new flavors have since joined the traditional recipes, but the know-how regarding fish preserves remains the same for all of them.

Sardines are migratory fish, so sardine fishing is seasonal. In early spring, the famous sardines appear near the Breton coast. Conserverie Gonidec sources freshly caught fish daily from fishermen in the harbor of the small town, and has been doing so for 40 years.

As soon as the fish arrives at the factory, it is immersed in a saltwater bath with ice. This process, also known as brining, allows the sardine flesh to scale and firm up. Then, about forty employees perform the "tripping," which is cleaning and gutting the sardines by hand. They are then rinsed and dried on racks before being fried in hot oil and then allowed to rest and drain overnight. The "emboîtage" (canning) only takes place the next day, when the sardines are de-tailed and de-headed and placed into the cans by hand. Today, JG Jacques Gonidec is the only remaining cannery in Concarneau.

Content 115g – Drained weight 87g – Best before end 2031 – Organic control number FR-BIO-10

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0998/4960/1350/files/jg-jacques-gonidec-sardinen-bio-olivenoel_387f8e84-9b34-45f8-a436-43d57354412b.jpg?v=1776141955
