This blanket is made partly (1 quarter) from virgin wool from Gotland sheep, which were shorn by the Vikings who appreciated the high quality of the wool, and ¾ from lambswool. Lambswool refers to the wool from the (very) first shearing of a sheep or lamb. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is usually obtained from living sheep, mostly in spring, as much as possible in one piece. After shearing, the wool is combed and fluffed before being wonderfully dyed beige-brown and spun into yarn. The Klippan Gotland blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is said to be hardly scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer. Klippan does everything to make the blanket feel soft; for this, the lambswool is pre-combed again.
