This blanket is made partly (one quarter) from virgin wool from Gotland sheep, which were shorn by the Vikings who appreciated the high quality of the wool, and ¾ from lambswool. Lambswool refers to the wool from the very first shearing of a sheep or lamb. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is usually obtained from live sheep, mostly in spring, in one piece if possible. After shearing, the wool is combed and loosened before being wonderfully dyed orange and spun into yarn. The Klippan Gotland blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is said to be hardly scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer. Klippan does everything to ensure the blanket feels soft; for this, the lambswool is pre-combed once more.
