On the palate, it shows power, silkiness and harmony, soft tannins and perfectly integrated acidity culminating in a long finish. The Sangaetano is a wine with a great structure and a good balance between ripe fruit and silky tannin structure. A complex red wine with good drinkability, which goes well with grilled meat as well as with braised vegetables, a slice of pizza, an antipasti platter or a bag of potato chips.

Sangaetano – the Primitivo di Manduria IGP

The name derives from the small wine cooperative SanGaetano in Lizzano, which Cantine Due Palme acquired in 2012 to expand its range with a Primitivo di Manduria. The grapes for this wine come from the province of Taranto, where the soil is entirely red due to its high iron oxide content. The special soil formation can be tasted in the Primitivo di Manduria, which is one of the most important and sought-after red wines of Apulia both in Italy and abroad.

Since 1974, Primitivo di Manduria has held DOC status (Denominazione di origine controllata), the protected designation of origin. The cultivation area for this special Primitivo includes parts of the Apulian provinces of Taranto and Brindisi. The small town of Manduria gives its name to the appellation. Underneath the fertile red soil are limestone and clay soils, which can still release moisture to the vines of the early-ripening Primitivo grape variety even in dry summers.

The Sangaetano of Cantine Due Palme is made from selected Primitivo grapes, which are harvested by hand in small crates in early August. The perfectly ripe grapes first ferment in special stainless steel tanks, in horizontal rotating tanks, where colors and aromas can be particularly well released into the must. The wine then ages for six months in American oak barrels and several months in the bottle before being released for sale.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0998/4960/1350/files/sangaetano-primitivo-manduria-due-palme-2021_275385c4-e276-485e-890d-5a630c03cab4.jpg?v=1776144992
