Sekthaus Griesel Compagnie – Griesel Sekt
While Sekthaus Griesel Compagnie doesn't boast a long tradition, it has experienced a meteoric rise in the German sparkling wine scene. The Streit family, who founded Sekthaus Griesel in Bensheim on the Hessische Bergstraße in 2013, owes this to their courage and their instinct to bring Niko Brandner on board for Griesel Sekt. Although the young cellar master Niko Brandner had studied viticulture and apprenticed with Volker Raumland, he was still a career changer who gave up his banking job to move from the financial world to the world of enjoyment. He became the direct operations manager at Sekthaus Griesel, and is therefore responsible for both cultivating the 7.5 hectares of vineyards (now 14 hectares) and for developing the grapes into wine or sparkling wine. He focused all his attention on producing something truly special, and it was so good in the very first vintage that Spiegel Online wrote about him in December 2016: "His distinctive sparkling wines from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling represent the new German sparkling wine class." In 2019, Griesel Sekt was named "Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year" at the German Sekt Award. Griesel Sekt stands for the finest sparkling wine culture from Germany's smallest wine-growing region.
