Fangst – Nordic Canned Seafood
Fangst is what Martin, Ramus, and Mikkel call their Nordic Canned Seafood company, which they founded in Copenhagen in 2018 – and how fitting, because Fangst means "catch" in Danish.
However, the three of them didn't catch flies, but rather the finest fish from the Nordic Sea. No sardines or tuna go into these cans, but rather delicious Baltic Sea sprats, Nordic salmon, cockles, or blue mussels.
Fangst – Fish from the Nordic Sea
The three Danes are deeply rooted in Scandinavia and its food culture. Fish has always played an important role in their diet. A century ago, there were numerous canning companies that mastered the art of preserving fish and seafood in cans. Unfortunately, this tradition has somewhat fallen into oblivion. So, the startup sea dogs have set themselves the goal of rediscovering this craft with respect for nature.
To do this, they have spoken with fishermen, scientists, entrepreneurs, chefs, and other experts about the topic of sustainability, which is very important to them. Fangst is about local fishing, about species that find their optimal living conditions in the Nordic Sea and that are particularly tasty, such as the brisling. Until now, the Baltic sprat, as the small, fatty fish with the silvery belly is also called, has received little attention. Only as a smoked variety, the Kieler Sprotte, has the fish been able to build a fan base. That is about to change. The fish is preserved in cold-pressed rapeseed oil from the Danish island of Bornholm. Fangst Nordic Canned Seafood brings the abundance of seafood from the Nordic Ocean, preserved in cans, as a delicious meal or as snacks from the North to your table. God appetit!
