Feinbrennerei Sasse is known for its fine spirits from Münsterland. Sasse has more than met its own goal of bringing recognition to good German Korn as a high-quality spirit on an international level once again. In addition to the classic Lagerkorn, Cigar Special, and Atlantic Finish, Sasse offers specialties such as Sechster, Grafschafter Kräuterwacholder, Gerlever Kloster Liqueurs, natural liqueurs, and the Münsterländer Aperitif Amélie. But try them for yourself!
Feinbrennerei Sasse – 300 Years of Korn History
Distilling has been taking place in Schöppingen since 1707, over 300 years. The distillery came into the Sasse family's possession in 1857 through the marriage of Franz Anton Sasse to Elisabeth Wilmink, whose parents had founded the distillery. In 1918, son Theo Sasse took over management and brought the first steam engine to the small town. In 1918, the brandy monopoly was introduced, enabling the production of industrial alcohol for the masses. Korn was no longer in demand, and many distilleries struggled to survive in the late 1970s.
This was also the case for Feinbrennerei Sasse in 1985. However, 16-year-old Rüdiger Sasse, free from old ways of thinking and acting, searched for and found new perspectives for the future of the 300-year-old family and company tradition when he tried a bottle of Korn, distilled by his great-grandfather, among his family. The aged Korn was more complex and flavorful than the freshly distilled one. The idea for Lagerkorn was born, and Sasse's success story began. Today, around 20 employees work at the Feinbrennerei. The newly built "Reifugium" has the capacity to store and age 250,000 liters of distillates in barriques. Sasse Lagerkorn truly has nothing to do with the old-fashioned "gentleman's drink" anymore.
