Wachter Wiesler Winery – Deutsch Schützen
The traditional Wachter Wiesler winery is among Austria's top red wine producers. In the municipality of Deutsch Schützen, the Wachter and Wiesler wineries joined forces in the 1990s out of a love for wine. Around 13 hectares of vineyards are 95% planted with red grape varieties, above all the indigenous Blaufränkisch, for which both families have a passion. But Zweigelt, Cabernet, and Merlot, as well as Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, and Pinot Blanc, also thrive on the border with Hungary.
Wachter Wiesler Winery – organic and natural
Although father Franz Wachter initially managed the winery's business, his son Christoph has been primarily responsible since 2010. For a dozen vintages, the talented winemaker has been the cellar master and has shaped the typical Wachter Wiesler wine style of the winery, which has been organically certified since 2018. The focus is on natural, organic management of the vineyards, careful harvesting of healthy grapes, skin contact, spontaneous fermentation, and aging in 500-liter and large wooden barrels, restrained intervention in winemaking, minimal use of sulfur, and unfiltered and unfined bottling. The wines of Weingut Wachter Wiesler are puristic, cool natural wines that are representatives of their origin, uniquely and impressively showcasing their grape variety, soils, and sites such as Deutsch-Schützen and Eisenberg, Ratschen and Saybritz.
