Oberhöller – Chocolate from South Tyrol
Oberhöller chocolate is handmade chocolate from South Tyrol, refined with alpine ingredients from the region. In the small Oberhöller chocolate factory in the Sarntal Valley, amidst the South Tyrolean mountains, master confectioner Anton Oberhöller discovered his love for making chocolate. For decades, he and his wife Paula ran a successful café with a fantastic selection of cakes, but one day he no longer felt like getting up in the middle of the night to bake cakes. On a hike through the Alps with good friends, Anton pondered the possibility of creating a genuine South Tyrolean product that tourists could take home as a souvenir and that South Tyroleans themselves would also love. This is how the idea for the first Oberhöller chocolate, the chocolate with mountain pine, came about. And indeed, this alpine chocolate creation became an absolute bestseller in his confectionery.

The confectionery was promptly closed to dedicate itself solely to chocolate production from then on. Quickly, more South Tyrolean chocolates were added: with stone pine nuts and dried apricots, with walnuts, strawberries, and South Tyrolean apple. Today, both sons also work in the Oberhöller chocolate factory, which no longer only produces fine bar chocolates but also pralines and delicious nut creams, such as the milk-free hazelnut cream, the pistachio cream, or the white almond cream with tonka bean. While initially working with couverture from Valrhona, Anton now produces bean-to-bar chocolates in his family business. From the bean to roasting to the chocolate refined with regional ingredients, all steps are now carried out by Toni or his son Michael.
