Conservas Ortiz – fine canned fish
For over 100 years, Conservas Ortiz has been committed to sustainable fishing and species conservation. No wonder, because the sea and its diversity are the basis for producing fine canned fish. For five generations, tuna has been caught using traditional techniques, without nets, with fishing rods in the local Cantabrian Sea. For the careful processing of the delicate fillets, the family business Ortiz relies on a lot of manual labor. Craftsmanship is also required for sardines; each sardine is cleaned and canned by hand. Anyone who has once tasted the tuna or sardines in the nostalgic cans will gladly return to the unique Ortiz quality.
Ortiz – Tuna and Sardines
The southern Bay of Biscay, located off the Spanish coast, is generally referred to in Galician as Mar Cantábrico, or the Cantabrian Sea. Here in Ondarroa, Bernardo Ortiz de Zàrate learned the craft of fishing and canning tuna, sardines, and anchovies in 1891. Since then, the company Conservas Ortiz has been highly esteemed for its high-quality canned fish, especially the Ortiz tuna, the Bonito del Norte, which is particularly aromatic and incomparably tender, demonstrating the technical expertise of this canning manufacturer.
