An empty sofa is just a piece of furniture. With two or three cushions on it, it becomes a place where you want to sit. This is the simple arithmetic of a living room — and why cushions are so much more than mere decoration.

A good cushion has a weight you can feel in your hand. The cover isn't just fabric, but a woven structure. The filling is down, feathers, or pure new wool, not polyester flakes. And when you lean into it, the shape holds — the cushion doesn't go flat; it supports you.

Klippan and Ekelund, two Swedish classics

Klippan Yllefabrik has been weaving since 1879 — and cushions are the logical counterpart to their heavy wool blankets. Covers made of pure new wool blend, in the same patterns as the blankets, so that the sofa and throw belong together without looking like a matching set.

Ekelund Master Weavers works with jacquard weaves made from half-linen. The cushions are a bit lighter, a bit more summery, and often feature embroidered motifs that combine Scandinavian heritage with modern understatement.

Sizes that work in everyday life

• 50 × 50 cm — the standard, fits well on almost any sofa.
• 40 × 60 cm — elongated, good for leaning back, also in an armchair.
• 45 × 45 cm — smaller, for bed or chair.
• 30 × 50 cm — lumbar cushion, as an accent.

A subtle care tip: Turn cushions once a week when in use — not just the cover, but the whole cushion. This ensures the filling is evenly stressed, feathers and wool remain equally fluffy everywhere, and the cushion keeps its shape for many years. This is the only reason why cushions in hotels always look as if they are new.
