Rue Traversette – Spreads, Vegetable Creams, and Vinaigrettes
Rue Traversette is an innovative, small-batch cannery from Languedoc that produces delicious, vegetarian spreads, creams, and vinaigrettes from everything nature's garden provides: vegetables, herbs, and fresh fruit. In 2005, Stéphane Strobl, who owes his Bavarian surname to his father, turned his passion into his profession and founded Rue Traversette in the village of Saint André de Sagonis, located amidst vineyards in Hérault. It lies somewhat inland, roughly between Béziers and Montpellier. Rue Traversette playfully translates to "side street," meaning a path not everyone takes, with a wink to Stéphane's love life. He also plays with words in the names of his concoctions, such as "La méchante" (the mean one) spread, which is one of his bestsellers, the "pour Homme" (for men) spread, made of carrots, asparagus, and ginger, and "jolies fesses" (pretty bottom) spread, which contains carrots, onions, tomatoes, and pink peppercorns.
Rue Traversette – Delicacies from the South of France
But beyond that, the products from Rue Traversette vegetable cannery are simply magnificent, because the taste of the individual components remains discernible and unadulterated. When we first met Stéphane about 10 years ago, production was still carried out by three people in a garage. And we mean a garage. But we have never seen such a clean, tidy garage. On our last visit 5 years ago, Stephane had already moved into his new building with a really large kitchen and his own office. However, the quality of the basic ingredients and the care with which the vegetables, herbs, spices, and other ingredients are processed has remained the same. Delicacies from the South of France. You'll taste it.
