pHenomenal Drinks – handcrafted in Hamburg
pHenomenal Drinks is a small manufactory that produces handcrafted syrup in Hamburg. In 2012, the gin hype was already in full swing. Countless craft gins, including those from Germany, came onto the market. But not only gin is an important component of the beloved gin and tonic; the tonic water also plays a decisive role in the taste. After all, the drink usually consists of 4cl gin to 20cl tonic water. During a joint field test, the two Hamburg boys Hendrik and Peter came up with the brilliant idea of producing a tonic syrup that could be turned into tonic water as needed and simply with fresh mineral water. So the successful advertising photographer Peter and Hendrik, the fashion stylist and editor, tinkered with purely natural ingredients until they could produce their version of the perfect tonic water with the help of their pHenomenal Drinks Syrup.
pHenomenal Drinks – the Syrup Manufactory
What should their own tonic water taste like, the two from pHenomenal Drinks wondered. First of all, phenomenal, of course, because P is for Peter and H is for Hendrik. But seriously. It should have strong citrus aromas and a slight spiciness, and it should be less sweet than industrially produced waters and have a proper bitterness, which is characteristically due to the quinine contained in tonic water.
So Peter and Hendrik met in their own kitchen to cook syrup. An orange-yellow syrup is cooked from real, self-imported cinchona bark, fresh organic citrus fruits and aromatic organic lemongrass oil are used, and it is sweetened with organic agave syrup instead of sugar. With much passion and attention to detail, they finally launched their passion project. Today, pHenomenal Drinks Syrup is not only found in many home bars of true tonic lovers, but also in hip scene bars with high standards. Even if the kitchen is bigger today and Hendrik continues the project alone, it is still handcrafted in limited quantities from natural ingredients of organic quality. And in addition to the Tonic Syrup, there is now also a Ginger Syrup, a Winter Liqueur, and a premixed Negroni. Simply phenomenal!
