Enjoy the Fleur d'Emely Brut from Andres & Mugler

The organic sparkling wine Fleur d'Emely Brut 2022 is arguably the most exceptional sparkling wine from Andres & Mugler in the Palatinate and, unfortunately, always sells out far too quickly. This fine sparkling wine is characterized by its bouquet varieties, Muskateller and Sauvignon Blanc, and the terroir from which they originate: the Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad. The name of the vineyard dates back to the Romans, who passed through here with their horses. This unique vineyard came into being during the Cretaceous period, when the earth's crust buckled and eventually ruptured, leading to the formation of the Upper Rhine Rift Valley, with sediments such as sand and calcareous shells from marine animals in the upper layer and limestone deposits in the lower layer. These are precisely what are responsible for the unmistakable acidity and the lush, yellow fruit aromas of the wines and sparkling wines from the Reiterpfad.

Thus, the popular Fleur d'Emely organic sparkling wine from Andres & Mugler is intensely yellow-fruited and juicy, with an impressive grape aroma, accompanied by yellow peach and passion fruit, elderflower and lemon balm. This finely effervescent organic sparkling wine from Germany is a true insider's tip, juicy and aromatic, easy-drinking yet sophisticated, lush in aroma yet with cool, stony minerality, wonderfully dry with fine, mineral acidity and a long-lasting lively perlage. The Andres & Mugler Fleur d'Emely Brut organic sparkling wine is produced using traditional bottle fermentation.

The Andres & Mugler sparkling wine manufactory has three cuvées named after their children: Elena, the daughter of Michael and Uschi, and Louis and Emely, the children of Steffen and Daniela.

Organic sparkling wine – how the Fleur d'Emely Brut is made

The Muskateller and Sauvignon Blanc grapes for this Andres Mugler organic sparkling wine grow on mineral soils in the Palatinate, specifically in the famous Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad site. The cool winds from the nearby Palatinate Forest ensure a good acid structure in the early-harvested base wines, which is essential for good sparkling wine.

The quality philosophy of the Andres Mugler sparkling wine manufactory begins with careful soil cultivation and consistent greening. The vineyard work, such as pruning, carried out by Michael Andres and Steffen Mugler, is pure craftsmanship and characterized by a great love for biodynamics. The rhythm of nature largely determines their actions. For both, healthy soil, an intact flora and fauna, and thus a strong vine, are prerequisites for a healthy circular economy. Therefore, they hand-pick all biodynamically cultivated vineyards to bring the grapes undamaged to the sparkling wine estate in Ruppertsheim.

Here, Muskateller and Sauvignon Blanc are gently pressed, because the gentler the pressing, the fewer tannins and wax from the berry skin enter the must, and the finer and more long-lasting the perlage in the sparkling wine will be. Only about two-thirds of the juice present in the berries is pressed.

In the cellar, Steffen Mugler and Michael Andres give their sparkling wines time. The grapes are allowed to ferment slowly and rest on the fine lees. The following year, the Fleur d'Emely Brut is bottled and tiraged to initiate the second fermentation in the bottle. Now, the sparkling wine is allowed to rest and mature for another year on the fine lees, being regularly riddled and the bottles gradually turned upside down and riddled by hand, until at the very end, during manual disgorgement, the yeast plug is removed from the bottle and the Andres Mugler organic sparkling wine Fleur d'Emely Brut rests in the bottle without any dosage added until, as Steffen emphasizes, "it's good when it comes out."

Andres & Mugler – the sparkling wine producers

The Andres & Mugler sparkling wine manufactory in Ruppertsberg was founded in 1989 by two friends and Palatinate winemakers, Michael Andres and Steffen Mugler. In the early years, base wines were purchased and made into sparkling wine, but since 1993, only grapes from their own cultivation have been processed into sparkling wine. The sparkling wine estate cultivates 17 hectares in total (7 hectares by Michael and 10 hectares by Steffen) using biodynamic viticulture, growing Riesling and white Burgundy varieties such as Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, and Chardonnay, as well as Pinot Meunier (Schwarzriesling) and Pinot Noir in the best vineyards of the Palatinate. From these grapes, German sparkling wine with an unmistakable, elegant style is created through traditional bottle fermentation. Sparkling wine from Germany of the highest quality and organic standards. In 2019, two sparkling wines were highly rated for the first time at the Meininger Deutscher Sektpreis, followed in 2021 by the award from Eichelmann Deutschlands Weine as the best sparkling wine collection of 2021. Quite impressive. The Andres & Mugler sparkling wine estate is a member of "die Sektmacher" (The Sparkling Wine Makers), the association of traditional sparkling wine producers.
