Kühling Gillot – Nierstein Hipping Riesling GG – [ORGANIC]
The Kühling Gillot Nierstein Hipping Riesling GG 2020 is a VDP. Großes Gewächs from the Hipping vineyard in Rheinhessen. This magnificent wine combines the spiciness of the Pettenthal with the delicate fruitiness of the Ölberg, as Hipping is the mid-slope between these two vineyards. The nose is incredibly expressive with notes of lime, white peach, a hint of violet, and the unique undertone of lightly roasted nuts. On the palate, the wine shows tremendous tension, great power, and concentrated minerality, framed by a wonderfully sensual softness.
Kühling Gillot – Nierstein Hipping Riesling
In Nackenheim, the red rock of the underground slate band first begins to emerge from the earth and run along the Rhine bank, before this band disappears underground again a few kilometers south in Nierstein. Lined up like pearls on a string, the unique vineyards of Rothenberg, Pettenthal, Hipping, and Ölberg are directly exposed to the influence of the Rhine. At Ölberg, the Roter Hang swings west and moves away from the Rhine. These few kilometers between Nackenheim and Nierstein are the heart of Rheinhessen's slate Riesling.
The south-east facing parcel in Hipping is impressively framed by a red slate rock and forms an amphitheater "en miniature" with barren, rocky subsoil and even sun exposure.
The Kühling-Gillot family, Carolin and Hans Oliver, have been cultivating the parcel according to organic guidelines for several years, and with the 2014 vintage, the soil structure, the stability of the vines, and the quality of the grapes are so high that the Riesling from the Hipping vineyard is bottled as VDP.Großes Gewächs.
The Nierstein Hipping Riesling reflects everything for which the Rhine wines were so famous for so long: the extract of the Riesling grapes gives it body, the stony-porous clay slate soil opens up the wine and gives it tautness and finesse. The Nierstein Riesling Hipping completes the range of sites in the central part of the Roter Hang. Through a late and extremely meticulous selection in the vineyard, combined with ideally ripe grapes, the finest fruit aromas, a wonderful juiciness, extract, and enormous complexity are united. A tribute to the Roter Hang in Nierstein.
