Discover Friedrich Becker's Riesling Laisser Faire
The Riesling Laisser Faire 2022 from Friedrich Becker Winery is an exciting Riesling from Schweigen in the Southern Palatinate. "Laisser Faire," meaning "let it be," refers to the winemaking process of this special Riesling: fermented spontaneously with wild vineyard yeasts, winemaker Friedrich Becker leaves it to nature how long the wine ferments and when the winemaking process is complete. This is a small risk, as one never knows how much alcohol will be produced or how much residual sugar will remain. Thus, the Riesling Laisser Faire is a semi-dry wine in terms of residual sweetness, yet it still gives a dry impression. Above all, even with some bottle aging, in addition to the classic Riesling notes of yellow stone fruit, such as mirabelle plum, peach, apple, and citrus, it retains that wonderful, slightly wild yeast aroma that makes it special to us and a true delight.

Estate wines are the calling card of the winery, which is why drinkability and a fine sense of origin are particularly important to Friedrich Becker here. The grapes come from the winery's own vineyards, which are farmed close to nature and cared for by hand. Estate wines are ideal food companions, even with some bottle aging, which suits Riesling well.
How this Friedrich Becker wine is made
The Riesling grapes for this estate wine come from the best Riesling vineyards around Schweigen, on barren limestone soils planted with old vines. Vineyards that naturally yield low harvests and first-grade grapes.
The grapes are carefully hand-selected, destemmed, and gently pressed after 30 hours of maceration. The controlled fermentation and further aging take place in 2400-liter oak barrels. After extended fermentation with wild yeasts, extensive lees aging, and the gentlest filtration, bottling took place in June 2023.
