Stoan - a superb white wine cuvée from Cantina Tramin

The Cantina Tramin Stoan 2022 white wine cuvée is an elegant, dry white wine made from 65% Chardonnay, 20% Sauvignon, 10% Pinot Blanc and 5% Gewürztraminer. It shines bright golden in the glass and captivates with fruity notes of white peach, apricots, ripe pear, elderflower and exotic kumquats, complemented by white flowers like jasmine and mimosa, and delicate spice notes.

On the palate, it is present, harmonious and balanced, with deep fruit aromas of pineapple, banana and pear, meeting vegetal notes like tomato leaves and green bell pepper. Lemon zest and a salty minerality linger in the long, slightly melting finish.

Cantina Tramin – the 2022 vintage

The 2022 vintage began with above-average temperatures in spring, favoring an early bud break. The persistently warm temperatures in May led to rapid flowering. Thanks to targeted vineyard work and occasional rain, the vines were kept stress-free despite summer periods of extreme heat. The grape harvest began almost two weeks earlier than usual. Because the weather played along perfectly, grapes of outstanding quality could be harvested throughout the entire harvest period. The white wines of the 2022 vintage exhibit a distinct, finessed fruit with balanced acidity. The red wines of the 2022 vintage are impressive, benefiting from a high degree of ripeness and developing complex fruit and full flavor with robust aromas.

The vines, some up to 40 years old, for this Cantina Tramin wine grow on gravelly, stony, calcareous scree and loamy soils in hillside locations starting from 400m, but mostly between 500-600m above sea level, and almost exclusively with a south-east orientation. They benefit from the Mediterranean climate during the day and cold downdrafts from the surrounding mountains at night. The grapes were harvested by hand in several passes at the time of optimal physiological ripeness, depending on the grape variety, and brought to the winery in small containers. There, they were destemmed and gently and slowly pressed. Fermentation took place separately by grape variety at controlled temperatures (18-20°C) in 30-40 hl wooden barrels, where some malolactic fermentation occurred. The must was clarified by natural sedimentation of the solids. Stainless steel tank. Aging took place on the lees in large wooden barrels for almost a year. After blending and bottling, the wine matured for at least another 3 months in the bottle.
