Rings Syrah Réserve – The great grape of the Rhône from the Pfalz

The Rings Syrah Réserve 2020 is a bone-dry organic red wine with great potential from the Pfalz. The Syrah, the great grape of the Rhône, grows in Freinsheim vineyards, which are managed by the Rings brothers Andreas and Steffen from pruning to harvesting. The warm microclimate of the sandy and gravelly soils around Freinsheim is planted with French grape material. The Syrah Réserve from Weingut Rings, an exceptional wine that is now bottled in special years, shows the characteristics of its variety and the soils on which it grew. On the nose, dark wild berries, night-black blackberries, ripe cherries and cassis, dark chocolate and smoked bacon, sweet tobacco and vanilla. On the palate, wonderfully complex and multi-layered with well-balanced acidity, soft tannins and great length.

Rings – Winemaking

The Rings brothers place great importance on healthy soils, as only from them can healthy vines stand and healthy grapes grow. They begin early with the sowing of buckwheat, clover and radish, which prevents soil erosion, attracts beneficial insects and retains moisture in the soil, which is revitalized with the application of horse manure as a natural fertilizer. Leaf work is also important for the quality of the wine: double shoots are removed manually, and depending on the weather, the grapes are defoliated and thinned to aerate them. The grapes are 100% hand-picked at the optimal harvest time, sorted and selected again at the winery, and destemmed. Without pumping, the grapes are placed in their wooden fermentation vats, the so-called "cuves". After a short maceration period, the natural yeasts are allowed to work and initiate spontaneous fermentation. The aging took place partly in used barriques, partly in new barriques, each for 20 months. This magnificent Syrah Réserve is bottled unfiltered.
