Rings Chardonnay & Pinot Blanc 2023 – Burgundy Cuvée from the Palatinate [ORGANIC] [VDP]

The Rings Chardonnay & Pinot Blanc 2023 from Weingut Rings is a dry VDP.Gutswein made from grapes from their own vineyards in Freinsheim and Kallstadt. These vineyards are managed by Andreas and Steffen Rings using sustainable, organically certified practices. The skillful use of wood gives the Rings Chardonnay Pinot Blanc spice and power, supporting its varietal-typical aromas of ripe pear, honeydew melon, almonds, and summer wildflower meadow. This white Burgundy cuvée is pleasantly elegant and fruity on the palate, juicy and fresh with a fine melt.

Rings – Winemaking

The Rings brothers place great emphasis on healthy soils, vines, and grapes in organic viticulture. They begin early with the sowing of buckwheat, clover, and radish, which prevents soil erosion, attracts beneficial insects, and retains moisture in the soil, which is revitalized with the application of horse manure as a natural fertilizer. Canopy management is also important for wine quality: double shoots are manually removed, and depending on the weather conditions, the grapes are defoliated and thinned to ensure aeration. The Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc grapes are hand-picked and selected at the optimal harvest time, and some are gently pressed as whole bunches. After a short maceration period, natural yeasts are allowed to work and initiate spontaneous fermentation. Aging takes place partly in large wooden barrels (500L tonneau barrels (75%), which Andreas and Steffen manage very well) and partly in stainless steel tanks. This makes the Rings Chardonnay & Pinot Blanc more complex, layered, and aromatic in a positive sense. Bottled without fining.
