Sawade Berlin – The Chocolatier
Sawade Berlin offers delicious handmade chocolates, nougat, and marzipan specialties from Berlin's oldest surviving chocolate manufacturer. Founded in 1880 Unter den Linden by Ladislaus Maximilians Ziemkiewics, his Sawade manufactory quickly became appointed as a royal purveyor, and the court loved Sawade chocolates. As a tribute to its heyday, the Königin Louise Pastete (Queen Louise Pastry) is still available today.
In the 1970s, production moved to Reinickendorf, employing 70 staff members, and although the quality of the chocolates was as magnificent as in the king's time, demand for Sawade chocolates plummeted.
Sawade – Eat More Chocolates
At the end of 2013, the Hübel couple seized the opportunity and bought Sawade out of insolvency, making a grand new start with top quality, delicious recipes, and a new modern brand image. Today, Sawade is once again one of Germany's best chocolate manufacturers, with 4 of its own branches in Berlin, including one in the Hackesche Höfe, and many excellent retailers who are surely as enthusiastic about the quality and unique taste as we are.
