Argentinian Style Rub with the Character of an Asado

Cape Herb & Spice's Argentinian Style Rub is an Argentinian-inspired, chimichurri-style spice blend, with roasted garlic, oregano, cumin and a hint of orange. Not a fiery hot chili powder, but a savory grilling spice that adds depth to steak and vegetables.

Argentinian Style Rub is Cape Herb & Spice's Argentinian grilling spice from Cape Town, made for steak, spare ribs, and hearty grilled vegetables. It brings the aroma of South American fire cooking to your table, savory, herbaceous, with a subtle citrus note from orange extract. Let yourself be seduced by Argentinian asado, without a plane ticket.

As soon as you open the can, the scent of roasted garlic and dried oregano wafts towards you, with cumin providing warmth underneath. Per 100 grams, the blend combines eleven ingredients, from paprika flakes to parsley and coriander leaf, supported by sea salt as a base. No flavor enhancers, no artificial flavors, just herbs, spices, and salt. That's how Argentina tastes.

Savory, herbaceous, with a hint of orange

On the meat, the rub unfolds in stages, first hearty and salty, then spicy, finally bright and citrusy.

The herbs give it its typical chimichurri tone, cumin and coriander add warmth underneath, and the orange extract takes away the heaviness of the spice. The 2 percent chili flakes tickle rather than burn. Chimichurri, in Argentina, is the green herb sauce for grilled meat, freshly made from parsley, garlic, and oil. Here, you have its character in a dry, long-lasting form.

On the hot grill, the salt caramelizes and the garlic roasts further, then a dark, savory crust forms around the meat. This very moment turns a steak into a grilling evening.

How to season your steak like in Argentina

Rub your steak with a little olive oil, season generously with the rub, and let it sit for about 30 minutes before putting it on the grill.

Keep the rub handy while grilling and sprinkle it again when flipping to give the crust its depth. You can use the mixture dry or mix it with a little oil to form a paste and marinate the meat in it. Try it on beef steak, spare ribs, or lamb chops; it also works beautifully on baked potatoes, corn on the cob, and hearty grilled vegetables.

If you like it smokier, combine it with the Smokehouse BBQ Rub; if you're looking for the classic steakhouse aroma, reach for the Texan Steakhouse Rub. This way, you can build your own little spice rack for grilling.

Cape Herb & Spice from Cape Town since 1994

Behind the rub is Cape Herb & Spice, a spice manufacturer from Cape Town, founded in 1994 by Irene Ivy. Innovation, taste, and quality, just as Irene envisioned from the start, continue to define the brand today.

What Irene started over 30 years ago from a small market cart at the V&A Waterfront now supplies kitchens around the globe, with over 600 employees supporting it. Cape Town lies on the old spice route, and you can taste this passion for seasoning in the blend. Cape Herb & Spice sees itself as a cheeky sous chef in your kitchen, relies on traceable ingredients, and was the first supplier in South Africa with completely un-irradiated spices. All due respect.

Our tip for an Argentinian evening

Store the Argentinian Style Rub dry and well-sealed to keep its aroma alive for a long time. For us, a true asado includes a robust glass of Malbec, some good friends, and plenty of time by the fire. Leftover rub can season roasted potatoes or a vegetable stir-fry the next day; nothing has to go to waste. Fire away.
