Karl May Blutsbruder Weiß – Organic Cuvée of Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc
The Karl May Blutsbruder Weiß 2023 is a dry organic wine from the Fritz and Peter May winery in Osthofen, Rheinhessen. Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc give the Karl May Blutsbruder Weiß richness and crisp freshness. On the nose, there are aromas of ripe stone fruit and exotic fruit, complemented by delicate floral notes and a fine herbal spice. Its fine acidity gives it a juicy freshness reminiscent of a babbling mountain stream in the Rocky Mountains. It pairs well with many dishes from modern, light cuisine, but also works by the campfire.
When two brothers, in Winnetou-Old-Shatterhand-like harmony, manage a winery in the eternal expanse of the Wonnengau, genuinely and honestly named Karl May, then there simply must be wines called BLUTSBRUDER (Blood Brother). After the red and white Blutsbruder became true classics, it was time for a strong rosé. The Blutsbruder Weiß is slightly less dry than its two brothers. Yeeehaa! In all three Blutsbruder cuvées, a local grape variety is married with an international one.
It is the perfect wine for a beautiful evening, an uncomplicated companion to summer salads, light dishes with white meat, poultry, or fish. The white wine is vinified dry and is not too alcoholic. A wonderfully balanced white wine from Rheinhessen that perfectly accompanies any blood brotherhood. Well done!
Karl May Wine – Preparation
The grapevines for this white wine cuvée from the Karl May winery grow in organically managed vineyards in various locations with sandy loess-loam soils. To harvest ripe grapes in the autumn, Fritz and Peter May begin in January with gentle pruning and early defoliation of the grape zone for optimal sun exposure, as well as yield reduction through green harvesting. The selective hand harvesting of the grapes takes place in several passes. The path to the new winery is short, where the grapes are gently processed, separated by grape variety. After a short maceration period, the mash is gently pressed, and the must is spontaneously fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. A small part was fermented in barriques and then aged on fine lees for another 6 months. This brings complexity, body, and creaminess to the wine.
