Experience the Karl May Osthofen Goldberg Riesling – [ORGANIC]
The Osthofen Goldberg Riesling 2021 is a Karl May wine from the limestone Goldberg site, a Grand Cru. This elegant single-vineyard Riesling presents itself powerfully on the palate with good pressure, notes of ripe pear, a hint of apple strudel, along with apricot kernel, spicy herbal notes, and fresh, citrusy hints, rounded off by a cool, salty limestone aroma.
Despite its volume, the Karl May Osthofen Goldberg Riesling is an elegant food companion for heartier dishes, such as veal fillet with chanterelles and polenta, cod with savoy cabbage in white wine sauce, or well-aged cheese. We recommend a large glass and a serving temperature of 10-12 degrees Celsius.
Karl May Wine – Preparation
According to old records, a chapel was built on the Osthofen Goldberg as early as the 6th century, and later it housed the first large manor, which developed into an imperial castle by 1195. The Riesling grapes for this Karl May wine of international caliber come from this ancient vineyard on the edge of the Wonnegaus.
The grapes grow on 37-year-old vines. Limestone soils underground and loess-loam top layers form the basis of the vineyards, which have been organically cultivated since 2007. It is precisely this limestone minerality that gives the Osthofen Goldberg Riesling its charm. Experience a great single-vineyard wine from a great terroir with the Karl May Osthofen Goldberg Riesling 2021.
To be able to harvest fully ripe grapes in autumn, Fritz and Peter May begin as early as January with gentle pruning and early defoliation of the grape zone for optimal sun exposure, as well as yield reduction through green harvesting in early summer. Selective hand-picking of the grapes often takes place in several passes. The journey to the new winery is not far, where the grapes are gently processed. The mash is gently pressed, and the must is spontaneously fermented in stainless steel tanks, where it remains on the lees for several months before being aged in steel. This brings finesse and elegance to the single-vineyard wine.
