Karl May Blood Brother White – Organic Cuvée of Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc
The Karl May Blood Brother White 2024 is a dry organic wine from the Fritz and Peter May winery in Osthofen, Rheinhessen. Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc give the Karl May Blood Brother White richness and crisp freshness. On the nose, the scent of ripe stone fruit and exotic fruit aromas, along with delicate floral aromas and a fine herbal spice. Its fine acidity gives it a juicy freshness reminiscent of a babbling mountain stream in the Rocky Mountains. It pairs well with many modern, light dishes, but also works by the campfire.
When two brothers cultivate a winery called Karl May in the eternal expanse of the Wonnegau with Winnetou-Old-Shatterhand-like harmony, then there must be wines named BLOOD BROTHER there. After the red and white Blood Brother have become true classics, the time was ripe for a strong rosé. The Blood Brother White is slightly less dry than its two brothers. Yeehaw! In all three Blood Brother Cuvées, a local grape variety is married with an international one.
It is the perfect wine for a beautiful evening, an uncomplicated companion to summer salads, light dishes with white meat, poultry, or fish. The white wine is vinified dry and is not too alcoholic. A wonderfully balanced white wine from Rheinhessen that perfectly accompanies any blood brotherhood. Well done!
Karl May Wine – Preparation
The grapevines for this white wine cuvée from the Karl May winery grow in organically farmed vineyards in various locations with sandy loess-loam soils. To harvest ripe grapes in autumn, Fritz and Peter May begin in January with gentle pruning and early defoliation of the grape zone for optimal sun exposure, as well as yield reduction through green harvesting. Selective manual harvesting of the grapes takes place in several passes. The path to the new winery is short, where the grapes are gently processed separately by variety. After a short maceration period, the mash is gently pressed and the must is spontaneously fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. A small portion was fermented in barrique barrels and then aged for another 6 months on the fine lees. This brings complexity, fullness, and creaminess to the wine.
