Try the Karl May Riesling – Organic Estate Wine from Rheinhessen
The Karl May Riesling 2023 is a dry organic estate wine from the Karl May winery in Osthofen. This white wine is characterized by the scent of crisp pome fruit, such as yellow apple and juicy pear, with a fine citrus aroma that accompanies it into a herbaceous finish. An estate wine that wants to be drunk because it's fun: dry, fruity, juicy.
Its fruitiness, paired with a good acid balance, moderate alcohol content, and delicate minerality, makes the Karl May Riesling an excellent food companion. Well-chilled, it accompanies fish, meat, and vegetables. We recommend a medium-sized glass and a drinking temperature of 8-10 degrees Celsius.
Marcus Hofschuster from wein.Plus chose this 2020 Riesling Estate Wine as his favorite and describes it as follows: "So if the basic wine is the calling card of a winery, this one is made of the finest handmade paper with gold embossing and all the bells and whistles. Because it's taut, cool, incredibly juicy, grippy and precise, even now, though still so young, and a touch reductive, animating like nothing else. It doesn't get any better for this price level!"
Winemaking – Karl May
The Riesling from the Karl May winery is a dry estate wine from Rheinhessen, from the wine-growing community of Bechtheim, located on the edge of the Wonnegau region. There, on sandy loess-loam soil with a south-southeast exposure, the grapes for Karl May's Riesling grow in the Heligkreuz site in organically cultivated vineyards.
To harvest ripe grapes in autumn, Fritz and Peter May begin in January with gentle pruning and early defoliation of the grape zone for optimal sun exposure, as well as yield reduction through green harvesting in early summer. The selective hand harvesting of the grapes often takes place in several passes. The path to the new winery is not far, where the grapes are gently processed. The mash is gently pressed, and the must is spontaneously fermented, remains on the lees for a long time, and is aged in stainless steel tanks.
