Philipp Kuhn Mano Negra – Dry and Powerful Red Wine Cuvée
The Philipp Kuhn Mano Negra 2020 is a dry, powerful red wine cuvée from the Palatinate region. Mano Negra stands for the black hand the winemaker gets when mashing the intensely colored grapes. Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon were blended for this red wine, which impresses with delightful cherry, cassis, and dried plum aromas. The fruity interplay is rounded off by spicy herb and pepper notes, a hint of gingerbread, and perfectly integrated oak.
The Mano Negra from Weingut Philipp Kuhn pairs well with grilled meat as well as pasta and pizza; even a tender saddle of venison in a rich sauce is compatible with it. This red wine is a Mediterranean type with charm and smoothness.
Philipp Kuhn – Winemaking
The grapes for the Mano Negra come from Laumersheim vineyards, which consist of loess loam, fine limestone grit, and massive limestone in the subsoil. They are harvested separately by hand at the optimal ripeness and further processed. Destemmed, they ferment traditionally in mash tubs for about two weeks before maturing for a good 17 months in small barriques. Cabernet Sauvignon and Blaufränkisch are blended into the cuvée just before bottling.
