Philipp Kuhn Blanc de Noirs 2018 – a Brut Nature VDP Sekt from Bottle Fermentation
The Philipp Kuhn Blanc de Noirs Brut Nature 2018 is a VDP Sekt from the Kuhn winery in the Palatinate, pressed from 100% Pinot Noir. This white vintage sparkling wine made from red grapes already shows a distinct Pinot Noir richness on the nose, followed by aromas of yellow stone fruit, toasted hazelnut, brioche, and fresh undergrowth on the palate. Although the spontaneously fermented Brut Nature is fully fermented, it surprises with a wonderful extract sweetness and very fine perlage.
The "Palatine Champagne," as Philipp Kuhn calls his Blanc de Noirs Sekt, is a wonderfully classic aperitif and accompanies light appetizers such as Vitello Tonnato or smoked salmon, as well as a creamy mushroom risotto with turbot. Simply a great winemaker's sparkling wine!
Philipp Kuhn – Sekt Production
The 2018 vintage Sekt is pressed from Pinot Noir grapes from the best vineyards in Laumersheim and Großkarlbach. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand at the right time and carefully transported to the winery in small boxes. Since the red color pigments of the Pinot Noir grape are located exclusively in the berry skin and not in the pulp, the grapes are pressed extremely gently, resulting in an almost white juice. The base wine itself, which was aged 60% in small wooden barrels and 40% in steel, underwent a 30-month long lees aging. The secondary fermentation to produce the sparkling wine occurred using the traditional bottle fermentation method. After disgorgement, the bottle is topped up with original base Sekt, so the Kuhn Blanc de Noirs Sekt remains beautifully dry and fully fermented. Truly Brut Nature!
