Philipp's Rosé, a classic with the scent of wild strawberries

Philipp Kuhn Rosé 2025 is a dry rosé wine from the Palatinate, pressed from five red wine grape varieties using the Saignée method. Light, fresh, delicately fruity. Not a pale summer flirt, but a rosé with character and drinking pleasure.

Philipp Kuhn Rosé 2025 is a dry rosé wine from the Palatinate, a classic in the Kuhn winery. Five red wine grape varieties give it its delicate fruit and charming wild strawberry scent. Let yourself be surprised by this basket full of red berries that rises from the glass as soon as it's poured.

Wild strawberry, raspberry, juicy cherry

In the glass, it shines in a delicate rosé. On the nose, a whole basket of juicy wild strawberries rises, clear and intense.

On the palate, raspberry and juicy cherry follow, carried by a mineral saltiness and animating acidity. Light, fresh, delicately fruity, with an elegant body and only 11.5% vol. Exactly what a good rosé should have: plenty of drinking pleasure.

With 6.9 g/l acidity and 4.9 g/l residual sugar, it remains dry but never harsh. Pressed from five red wine grape varieties, it brings more depth than some simple summer rosés and remains wonderfully uncomplicated.

We think it goes wonderfully with fish

It likes Mediterranean, light summer cuisine. It especially enjoys accompanying Mediterranean fish dishes, grilled chicken, and seafood pasta.

We think it goes wonderfully with grilled chicken, seafood pasta, or well-chilled as an aperitif on the terrace. Rosé has long been in season, not just in summer. If you want to taste more from the winery, try the light Blanc de Noir from Pinot Noir or the crisp Sauvignon Blanc from the Palatinate.

From the first juice using the Saignée method

The rosé is produced using the Saignée method, meaning "to bleed." The hand-picked grapes of Merlot, Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and St. Laurent are placed in large vats, and the first juice runs off by their own weight alone.

This first must remains on the mash until it has taken on the correct pink color. Depending on the maceration time, it will be lighter or stronger; this requires a good eye. Philipp Kuhn then presses his red wines from the remaining must, so nothing is lost.

"It has to be dry," Philipp says of all his wines. The 2020 vintage was chosen as Rosé of the Year by Meininger Verlag with 92 points, which speaks for the consistent quality. Philipp bottled his first vintage in 1992; today, the winery cultivates around 40 hectares. You can find more from the Palatinate among the other wines from Philipp Kuhn.

Enjoyment tip

Well-chilled at 8 to 10 degrees, it shows its red berry fruit most beautifully. It is an animating aperitif and a reliable companion for mild evenings. It tastes best freshly opened and keeps well in the refrigerator for one to two days. It tastes best in good company, when the sun is low and no one is looking at the clock. Fresh, fruity, uncomplicated.
