Introduction to Wiener Gemischter Satz
Are you ready to discover the unique taste of Vienna in a glass? Then let yourself be enchanted by the Wieninger Wiener Gemischter Satz DAC 2024. This is not just a wine, but a typical Viennese specialty, a cleverly composed symphony of 12 different grape varieties. Originally, in the vineyards within Vienna, grape varieties were not planted as single varieties as is common today, but mixed together. Grüner Veltliner stands next to Riesling, Chardonnay meets Roter Veltliner, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, Welschriesling and Neuburger, Traminer, Muskateller, Rotgipfler and Zierfandler join them.
The grapes for this organic wine grow on the sun-drenched slopes around Vienna, on both sides of the Danube. These vineyards are cultivated according to biodynamic principles. Practicing biodynamic viticulture is not just a method, but a way of life. Fritz Wieninger sees the soil, the plants, and the entire operation as a harmonious whole, a kind of circular economy where everything is interconnected. The biodynamic preparations, which are of natural origin, harmonize all organisms involved in the process, leading to higher resilience of the vines and higher wine quality.
The vines for the Wiener Gemischter Satz are located in the Bisamberg and Nussberg sites, which have different soils and climatic conditions. The Bisamberg consists of light, sandy loess, while the Nussberg has shell limestone and weathered limestone soil. The various grape varieties are carefully hand-picked at the same time with different degrees of ripeness, processed together, and fermented in stainless steel tanks, which gives the wine its characteristic taste.
