Antonio Mattei – Cantuccini La Mattonella

Antonio Mattei Cantuccini La Mattonella are traditional Italian cantuccini and a classic worldwide. Baked with rich flour, free-range eggs, high-quality almonds, sugar, and refined with pine nuts, they are the perfect accompaniment to a sweet wine, a glass of Prosecco, or as a dessert. Of course, these crispy cantuccini with a high almond content also taste wonderful with tea or coffee. Baked fresh daily in Prato for many generations, the cantucci are hand-packed in the unmistakable blue Mattei bags.

Traditional Cantuccini – Antonio Mattei

The origin of the classic cantuccini can be traced back to 1858 with the baker Antonio Mattei in Prato, Tuscany. With simple but high-quality ingredients, he improved the cantucci recipe and immediately met with a positive response. He opened the "La Mattonella" biscuit factory and sold his baked goods with great success. Among other things, Antonio Mattei's fine pastries won many awards and were also mentioned at the 1867 World Exhibition in Paris. In 1908, the bakery was taken over by the Pandolfini family and has since been considered the origin of cantuccini. Today, the fourth generation of the family runs Antonio Mattei La Mattonella and continues to adhere to the recipe and classic packaging of the cantuccini.

Antonio Mattei
