Soap with the scent of cotton – craftsmanship from Portugal

The production of natural soaps has a 300-year-old tradition in Portugal, which for Castelbel began in 1999 when Aquiles Barros, a respected professor of chemistry and former employee of the soap manufacturer Ach Brito, decided to create something new and his own.

Not far from the port city of Porto in northern Portugal lies the small village of Castêlo da Maia, which was not only the company's headquarters but also its namesake: Castelbel – beautiful castle.

Initially, the Castelbel soap manufactory produced private labels for a New York department store, and later for Galeries Lafayette in Paris. The Castelbel name remained hidden. Since 2006, the Castelbel Ambiente series (Lavender, Rose, Verbena) has been available, and its success story began. A significant contribution to this success has been the wonderful room fragrances in beautiful glass diffusers, which are exported from Portugal all over the world. A year later, the exclusive Portus Cale series followed, which, with its unique Portuguese product design, has found its admirers not only with us but also in Dubai, South Africa, and Japan, and delights museum guests in the washrooms of the Louvre in Paris.
