Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken – Dry Riesling from the Saar
The Zilliken Riesling trocken 2021 is an elegant Riesling from the Saar region from the VDP. winery Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken. The grapes grow on a unique soil formation characterized by Devonian slate and diabase. Diabase is a basalt flint that produces its own unmistakable minerality. After 100% selective hand-picking of their own grapes, gentle pressing and spontaneous fermentation take place in the old cellar below the new vinotheque, with maturation in neutral Fuder barrels. The Zilliken Riesling trocken is clear, juicy with an aroma of green apple, yellow peach, a slightly waxy pear skin, with typical Saar acidity and dancing lightness.
"Riesling. Dry. Saar. In a year like 2021, that pretty much says it all. The graceful apricot and nectarine nose is permeated by fine herbs and thinly coated with apple jelly. Fresh citrus aromas are met on the palate by a wonderful fruitiness, and together with the truly delicious finish, this estate wine makes an irresistible summer charmer," winemaker Dorothee Zilliken enthusiastically tells us about her wine.
The Zilliken Riesling trocken accompanies cream cheese and fried fish just as well as vibrant tomato salad. There are few dishes that would not benefit from this delightful companion.
