Wool, virgin wool, or lambswool - what's the difference?

Wool is a natural and renewable raw material. This blanket is made from 100% lambswool. Lambswool refers to the wool from a sheep's or lamb's very first shearing, within the first 6 months of life. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is also obtained from live sheep, usually in spring, ideally in one piece. After shearing, the wool is combed and loosened before being beautifully dyed saffron yellow and spun into yarn. The Klippan Knut blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is said to be hardly scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer. Klippan does everything to make the blanket feel soft; for this, the lambswool is extra pre-combed. Nevertheless, this quality is naturally scratchier than a cotton blanket would be, and especially at the beginning, the blanket sheds a bit.

The Knut throw can be wonderfully washed at 30 degrees, so you can easily wash your cozy blanket yourself when needed. To enjoy your wool blanket for a long time, it's best to use a mild wool detergent and avoid fabric softener. Keep in mind that the natural wool fat has a self-cleaning effect, and you wash it out little by little with each wash. It's best to hang the lambswool blanket outside on the line to air out.
