Monterosa Verdeal – Extra Virgin Olive Oil – 250ml

Monterosa Verdeal olive oil is a single-varietal, extra virgin olive oil made from the Iberian Verdeal variety. It is very mild, with a particularly fruity note. Aromas of fresh, cut grass are paired with a sweet almond scent. Perfect with salads, tomatoes, bread, cold soups or vinaigrettes. Monterosa Verdeal olive oil is an excellent oil from hand-picked Portuguese olives.

Monterosa – fine Verdeal from the Algarve

Monterosa is a family-run artisanal business in the eastern Algarve. Only about 7km from the cooling sea, there is always a fresh breeze here. In 1969, Detlev von Rosen emigrated from Sweden to Portugal to produce tomatoes and iceberg lettuce for the Northern European market. Later, he was, and still is, very successful in cultivating high-quality ornamental plants.

Since 2000, olive trees have been growing on 20 hectares. The previous summers were hot and dry, and the orange trees on the plantation needed vast amounts of water. (1 orange tree needs 1000 litres of water per week). So, olive trees were planted without further ado, with the aim of producing a particularly high-quality extra virgin olive oil. Five different olive varieties grow on Monterosa: Verdeal, Maçanilha, Picual, Cobrançosa and Frantoio. But olive trees were cultivated and cared for in this special place 2000 years ago, because a Roman trade route connecting Lisbon with Corduba passed through Moncarpacho. However, the in-house stone mill is equipped with the latest technology. Without long transport routes, the hand-picked olives can be processed directly on the plantation into the finest olive oil.

The best way to discover the taste differences of the five varieties is to try them all. The olive oil of the Verdeal variety is the mildest, greenest oil, followed by the oil of the Macanilha variety. Picual is one of the medium-fruity varieties. The indigenous Portuguese variety Cobrançosa is the spiciest, most powerful variety with a good kick in the finish.

Excellent olive oil – award-winning

  • Gold medal for Monterosa Verdeal olive oil 2016 at the New York Olive Oil Competition. A total of 826 oils from 26 countries were available for selection in New York.
  • Gold medal for Monterosa Verdeal olive oil 2016 in Tokyo. 600 olive oils from 21 countries participated in Olive Japan.
  • Silver for Monterosa Verdeal olive oil at the Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition.

Monterosa produziert preisgekröntes, natives Olivenöl extra aus Moncarapacho an der Algarve. Auf 20 Hektar, nur 7 km vom Meer entfernt, gedeihen Olivensorten wie Picual, Verdeal, Maçanilha und Cobrancosa. Die Oliven werden von Hand geerntet, selektiert, am selben Tag kalt gepresst und zwei Monate in Edelstahltanks gereift. So entstehen sortenreine Spitzenöle von höchster Qualität – mehrfach international ausgezeichnet.
