Pflüger Pinot Noir – from the Dürkheim FRONHOF vineyard
The Pflüger Fronhof Pinot Noir 2018 is a single-vineyard wine from the Dürkheim Fronhof vineyard, which has stood for top quality for over a hundred years. Pinot Noir is one of Pflüger's most high-quality wines, a wine of character with great development potential.
The Weingut Pflüger Fronhof Pinot Noir smells of dark cherries, blackcurrant and stewed plums, complemented by a lovely spiciness from skillful use of oak. The wine impresses with its elegant yet full-bodied style. On the palate, it shows a certain creaminess and beautiful minerality.
Weingut Pflüger – Wine Preparation
The old Pinot Noir vines for this Pflüger wine grow in organically farmed vineyards in the Dürkheim Fronhof site. As a vineyard beginning directly at the edge of the town, it is one of the oldest vineyard sites in the Mittelhaardt region.
The heavily reduced yields are a maximum of 45hl/ha. In order to harvest ripe grapes in autumn, winemaker Alexander Pflüger has been working according to biodynamic principles since 2008, refraining from artificial fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides, following the course of the seasons and the moon, and working as close to nature as possible. Weingut Pflüger is Demeter certified.
The grapes are hand-picked, often in several passes. In the winery's pressing house, located opposite the saltworks in Bad Dürkheim, the grapes are gently processed. The mash is pressed with gentle pressure and the must is spontaneously fermented. The wine then aged for approx. 15 months in French barriques, either new or second-fill.
