The northern Portuguese city of Porto is not only home to the Castelbel soap manufacturer but also the birthplace of arguably the most famous Portuguese wine: Port wine. Over centuries, an unique, spectacular terraced landscape was created on an area of around 250,000 hectares, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001. Locals call the exquisite drink with its rich, heavy sweetness the "nectar of the gods." It's only natural that Castelbel created an homage to Port wine with the Ruby Red series. Portus Cale – Tradition and Craftsmanship from Portugal

The production of natural soaps has a 300-year-old tradition in Portugal, with Castelbel beginning in 1999.

Not far from the port city of Porto in northern Portugal lies the small village of Castêlo da Maia, which was not only the company's headquarters but also its namesake: Castelbel – beautiful castle.

Initially, Castelbel produced private labels for upscale department stores. Since 2006, there has been the Castelbel Ambiente series (Lavender, Rose, Verbena) with soaps and wonderful room fragrances in beautiful glass diffusers, which are exported from Portugal all over the world. A year later, the exclusive Portus Cale series followed, which, with its unique Portuguese product design, has found admirers not only here but also in Dubai, South Africa, and Japan, and delights museum visitors in the restrooms of the Louvre in Paris.
