Stork Club Straight Rye Whiskey – 43% vol. Alcohol
The Stork Club Straight Rye Whiskey from Spreewald Destillerie is distilled from selected German rye and aged for three years in new, individually toasted American white oak and German Napoleon oak barrels. Shimmering with rich aromas such as caramel, dark chocolate, a hint of espresso, and the typical peppery notes of rye, this Straight Rye is the perfect partner for whiskey highballs, e.g., with ginger ale on the rocks, and whiskey cocktails!
Founded in 2004, the Stork Club Whiskey Distillery is located in the picturesque village of Schlepzig. Here, 60 kilometers south of Berlin, lies the UNESCO Spreewald Biosphere Reserve. The floodplain landscape, which resembles a river delta, is a historical cultural landscape with countless canals in the southeast of the state of Brandenburg. The lowlands with their unique microclimate, high water quality, and good rye from surrounding rye fields offer ideal conditions for the production of rye whiskey.
The Spreewald Destillerie includes its own Hammermühle, which grinds the rye into grist. The rye grist is first soaked in the 3,000-liter mash tun and then fermented unfiltered in one of the three fermentation tanks, each with a capacity of 4,000 liters. Two different yeast strains convert the sugar contained in the grain into alcohol. The resulting liquid, the Distiller's Beer, is distilled in a small, 1,000-liter Kothe Hybrid still, a blend of a classic Pot Still and a Column Still for continuous distillation. The raw spirits, the so-called New Make Spirits, are diluted with water to 60% alcohol content and filled into fresh, toasted American and European oak barrels for at least three years of aging. Before bottling, the Stork Club Straight Rye Whiskey, which is neither colored nor chill-filtered, is brought to drinking strength.

Spreewood Distillers – Whiskey from the Spreewald
The Spreewald is not only home to Spreewald gherkins but also to the finest rye whiskey. And this is how it came about: In 2015, Berlin entrepreneurs Steffen Lohr, Sebastian Brack, and Bastian Heuser took a trip to Schlepzig to buy a whiskey barrel for a client of their agency Small Big Brands at Brandenburg's oldest distillery. But the farm concept of the Römer family and their Spreewaldini distillery, with its liqueur and candy manufactory and cake bakery, so enthused them that they not only returned home with a whiskey barrel but with an entire whiskey distillery. This was rebuilt and modernized, and suddenly whiskey distilling was the talk of Schlepzig. Today, the Spreewood Distillery is Germany's first rye whiskey distillery, and its whiskeys have received international awards.
