Stork Club Full Proof Rye Whiskey – 55% vol. Alcohol
The Stork Club Full Proof Rye Whiskey from the Spreewald Destillerie is distilled from selected German rye and matures for three years in new, individually toasted American white oak and German Napoleon oak barrels. Boasting rich aromas such as caramel, nuts, dark chocolate, light sherry notes, notes of dried fruit, and the typical peppery note of rye, this brilliant Full Proof Rye Whiskey is the perfect partner for whiskey highballs, e.g., with ginger ale on the rocks, and whiskey cocktails!
Founded in 2004, the Stork Club Whiskey Distillery is located in the picturesque village of Schlepzig. 60 kilometers south of Berlin lies the UNESCO Spreewald Biosphere Reserve. The floodplain landscape, resembling a river delta, is a historic cultural landscape with countless canals in the southeast of the state of Brandenburg. The lowlands with their unique microclimate, high water quality, and good rye from surrounding rye fields offer ideal conditions for the production of rye whiskey.
The Spreewald Destillerie includes its own hammermill, which grinds the rye into grist. The rye grist is first steeped in the 3,000-liter mash tun before fermenting unfiltered in one of the three fermentation tanks, each with a capacity of 4,000 liters. Two different yeast strains convert the sugar in the grain into alcohol. The resulting liquid, the distiller's beer, is distilled in a small, 1,000-liter Kothe hybrid still, a combination of a classic pot still and a column still for continuous distillation. The new make spirits are diluted with water to 55% alcohol content and filled into first-fill, fresh, toasted American and European oak barrels for aging, and into sherry and wine barrels for finishing, and later bottled at approximate cask strength. Before bottling, Stork Club Full Proof Rye Whiskey is neither colored nor chill-filtered.

Spreewood Distillers – Whiskey from the Spreewald
The Spreewald is not only home to Spreewald gherkins but also to the finest rye whiskey. And this is how it came about: in 2015, Berlin entrepreneurs Steffen Lohr, Sebastian Brack, and Bastian Heuser took a trip to Schlepzig to buy a whiskey barrel for a client of their agency Small Big Brands at Brandenburg's oldest distillery. But they were so impressed by the farm concept of the Römer family and their Spreewaldini distillery, with its liqueur and candy manufactory and cake bakery, that they not only came home with a whiskey barrel but with an entire whiskey distillery. This was rebuilt and modernized, and suddenly whiskey distillation was all the rage in Schlepzig. Today, the Spreewood Distillery is Germany's first rye whiskey distillery, and its whiskeys have won international awards.
