Nackenheim Riesling 2019 – VDP. Weingut Kühling Gillot
The Kühling Gillot Nackenheim Riesling 2019 is an organic wine from the VDP.ERSTE LAGE Nackenheim in Rheinhessen. The vines for the Nackenheim Riesling from VDP. Weingut Kühling-Gillot grow on the legendary Rothenberg. The red slate gives the Riesling a unique minerality. This makes the Nackenheim village wine accessible early on. It seduces with ripe yellow fruit, lively acidity, and a lean body.
Kühling Gillot – Nackenheim Riesling
In Nackenheim, the mighty clay slate bank of the Roter Hang breaks through to the surface before disappearing underground again a few kilometers further south near Nierstein. We now own parcels in all the exciting sites of the Roter Hang, and after extensive new plantings, the vines in Nackenheim, in particular, have reached the right age for a great wine. The Kühling Gillot Nackenheim Riesling is the prototype of crystal-clear Riesling from the Red Slate.
Due to the less southerly orientation compared to the Nierstein sites, our Nackenheim parcels produce a Riesling whose fruit is somewhat more restrained, but whose stony spice is more pronounced. Thus, the tobacco aromas enter into a wonderful interplay with a lively acidity and a not-too-opulent body. The barren subsoil strips the Riesling of its playfulness, making it appear strict, clear, and very noble. The long lees aging and aging in large old Stückfässer give the Riesling a wonderful richness and elegant creaminess. Thus, notes of summer herbs and smoky spice are joined by fine aromas of yellow fruits.
The VDP classifies its members' sites and divides the best into "Große Lagen" and "Erste Lagen". Therefore, from the 2018 vintage, the Nackenheim Riesling will bear the classification VDP.AUS ERSTEN LAGEN, as only grapes from classified Erste and Große Lagen go into this wine.
