Kühling Gillot – Nackenheim Riesling – [ORGANIC]

The Kühling Gillot Nackenheim Riesling 2022 is an organic wine from the VDP.ERSTE LAGE Nackenheim in Rheinhessen. The vines for the Nackenheim Riesling from the Kühling-Gillot winery grow on the legendary Rothenberg. The red slate gives the Riesling a unique minerality. Thus, the Nackenheim local wine is accessible early on. It captivates with ripe yellow fruit, lively acidity, and a slender body.

In Nackenheim, the mighty clay slate bank of the Roter Hang pushes to the surface before disappearing underground again a few kilometers further south near Nierstein. We now own parcels in all the exciting sites of the Roter Hang, and after extensive new plantings, the vines in Nackenheim, in particular, have reached the right age for a great wine. The Kühling Gillot Nackenheim Riesling is the prototype of crystal-clear Riesling from the Red Slate.

Due to the lesser southern exposure compared to the Nierstein sites, our Nackenheim parcels produce a Riesling whose fruit is somewhat more restrained, but whose stony spiciness is more pronounced. Thus, the tobacco-like aromas enter into a wonderful interplay with lively acidity and a not overly opulent body. The barren subsoil drives out the playfulness of the Riesling, making it appear strict, clear, and very sublime. The long aging on lees and maturation in large old Stückfässer give the Riesling a wonderful fullness and elegant creaminess. Thus, fine aromas of yellow fruits join the notes of summer herbs and smoky spice.

The VDP classifies the sites of its members and divides the best into "Große Lagen" and "Erste Lagen". Therefore, the Nackenheim Riesling 2022 will bear the classification VDP.AUS ERSTEN LAGEN, as only grapes from classified Erste and Große Lagen go into this wine.
