Questions about Lava Salt – Metal Tin?

We are happy to help you with Nordur Salt.

Nordur Salt Lava Salt – Metal tin with arctic sea salt flakes

The Nordur Salt Lava Salt in the metal tin is a perfect combination of Icelandic salt and activated carbon from organic coconut. The lava salt thus refers to its origin in Iceland, a country at the end of the world, which is so unique due to the beauty of its geothermal geysers, still active volcanoes, and untouched nature. The black salt owes its color to the activated carbon used, which, while not greatly affecting the taste of the sea salt flakes, is visually very appealing, allowing you to unleash your creativity and use it to season grilled meat, salmon, as well as salads and all light dishes that contrast with the black color.

In 2014, Nordur received the Red Dot Award for its salt packaging as an accolade for particularly successful design, and since the sea salt flakes in the blue metal tin are so popular, the other varieties, such as the black salt – lava sea salt flakes – are now also available in a small, colorful Nordur metal tin. The tin is similar in size to the cardboard packaging and about half the size of the blue tins with pure salt.

Nordur Salt – old technique, new design

As early as 1753, the technique of producing salt in boiling pans was known in Iceland. For a long time, it seemed lost, but Nordur has revived the gentle production process. It all starts with fresh, salty seawater from the Arctic Ocean. This is then pressurized as in a pressure cooker. The effect is that the water starts to boil well below 100 degrees Celsius, preserving minerals and flavors. The resulting brine is brought to a boil in boiling pans, where the water slowly evaporates, leaving behind this wonderfully flaky sea salt from Nordur. And Nordur wouldn't be Nordur if the company didn't make use of Icelandic natural forces and work sustainably. Nordur uses the geothermal energy of the Nordic island with its spectacular landscape, characterized by volcanoes, geysers, thermal springs, and lava fields, in the production of its sea salt flakes.
