Enjoy Weedenborn Chardonnay Gutswein by Gesine Roll!
The Weedenborn Chardonnay 2023 by Gesine Roll from Weingut Weedenborn in Monzernheim, Rheinhessen, is a dry, elegant estate wine. Straw-yellow in the glass, its aroma of yellow fruits, apples, and pears is rather subdued. Delicate smoky and vanilla notes, as well as a beautiful, chalky minerality, reflect the cool elegance of this wine on the palate.
Chardonnay – Rank Number 7
Chardonnay is an internationally popular grape variety. In the world ranking of grape varieties, it confidently takes 7th place. The Chardonnay grape variety has a big advantage: it is flexible or adaptable, or as it is called in the wine world: it shows its terroir. It grows in the north as well as in the south, coping well with hot summers, although less well than with cool, rainy years. It grows on a wide variety of soils, but it likes limestone, as found around the Weedenborn winery in Monzernheim. And the white grape variety tolerates aging in wood. Gesine Roll harvests her Chardonnay early enough and allows a portion of it to mature in used large barrels. This results in a high-quality, cool estate wine with aromas of apples and pears, green walnuts, and a slight smokiness.
