Due Palme Canonico – Red Wine from Negroamaro

The Cantine Due Palme Canonico 2022 is a velvety, fruity red wine made from the Negroamaro grape variety. On the nose, the deep ruby red wine with violet reflections shows intense fruity notes of dark forest berries, blackberries, and cherries, complemented by dark chocolate and delicate roasted aromas from the wood. Its medium body is soft and warm, full and spicy. An uncomplicated red wine from Southern Italy with good drinkability, which can also be enjoyed chilled in summer and pairs well with grilled dishes, pizza or pasta, or with salami and ham.

Due Palme Canonico – the Negroamaro Salento Rosso IGP

Negroamaro is an ancient indigenous grape variety of Puglia. Its origins are unclear, but it was likely brought by the Greeks across the Ionian Sea. The origin of the word Negroamaro derives from the dialectal expression "niuru maru" (black and bitter). This refers to the dark color of the berries and the grape variety's unique tannin structure. The Negroamaro for the Canonico grows on trellises and was harvested in the second half of September, then macerated in special stainless steel tanks, specifically horizontal rotating tanks, where they optimally impart color and aromatic substances to the must. Afterwards, the wine matures for four months in French oak barrels.

This Negroamaro Salento Rosso IGP red wine owes its name to a district of the town of Cellino San Marcos, where Angelo Maci's grandfather's vines once stood.
