Cantine Due Palme Montecoco – a Salice Salentino DOP Red Wine

The Cantine Due Palme Montecoco 2021 is a velvety, full-bodied red wine cuvée made from the Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera grape varieties. On the nose, the dark ruby red wine reveals a complex bouquet with notes of dark berries, such as midnight black blackberries, elderberry, and ripe plums, cocoa and roasted aromas of coffee, as well as fine toast aromas from the wood.

Its well-structured body is powerful and warm, robust and spicy. On the palate, the Due Palme Montecoco shows strength, silkiness, and harmony, with soft tannins and perfectly integrated acidity leading to a long-lasting finish. A complex red wine with good drinkability, it pairs equally well with dark, boiled meats, as with game ragout or lamb stew, or with aged sheep's milk Pecorino cheese.

Due Palme Montecoco – the Salice Salentino DOP

Salice Salentino is certainly the most famous and well-known DOP of Salento and almost a symbol of the new style of Apulian wines. The Salice Salentino is a typical wine of this region, with its ancient Greco-Roman flair and its sun-drenched vineyards well-ventilated by cool sea breezes.

The Cantine Due Palme Montococo red wine is an exceptional cuvée of ripe and carefully selected Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera grapes, harvested in September. The name Montecoco comes from a place near Cellino in southern Italy. The hand-harvested grapes first ferment in special stainless steel tanks, in horizontal rotating tanks, where color and aromas can be particularly well extracted into the must. After that, the wine ages for six months in French oak barrels and a few months in the bottle before it goes on sale.
