Wool, virgin wool, or lambswool - what's the difference?

Wool is a natural and renewable raw material. This blanket is partly (1 quarter) made from virgin wool from the Gotland sheep, which was shorn by the Vikings who appreciated its high-quality wool, and 3/4 from lambswool. Lambswool is the wool from the very first shearing of a sheep or lamb. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is also obtained from live sheep, usually in spring, as much as possible in one piece. After shearing, the wool is combed and fluffed before being dyed in wonderful pastel tones and spun into yarn. The Klippan Gotland blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is said to be hardly scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer. Klippan does everything to make the blanket feel soft, for which the lambswool is pre-combed again, but this quality is naturally scratchier than a cotton blanket would be, and especially at the beginning, the blanket sheds a bit.

The Gotland Stripe blanket can be wonderfully washed at 30 degrees, so you can easily wash your cuddle blanket yourself if necessary. To ensure you enjoy your wool blanket for a long time, it's best to use a mild wool detergent and avoid fabric softener. Remember that the natural wool grease has a self-cleaning effect, and you wash it out gradually with each wash. It's best to hang the Gotland blanket outside on the line to air out.
