Papa dei Boschi – Hazelnut Nougat Spread

The main ingredient of Papa dei Boschi Hazelnut Nougat Spread are roasted hazelnuts from Piedmont, finely ground and kneaded and rolled with cane sugar, cocoa powder and vanilla until a creamy, homogeneous spread is created: the Crema di Nocciola dark. A high hazelnut content (55%) of freshly roasted Piedmont IGP hazelnuts, as well as the absence of foreign fats, neither soy lecithin nor vanillin, are indispensable quality features of this lactose-free, dark hazelnut nougat spread. Crema di Nocciola, or Gianduia cream, originated in Turin. At the beginning of the 19th century, during Napoleon's reign, high tariffs were imposed on goods from England and English colonies, including cocoa. The clever people of Turin stretched the chocolate with finely ground, roasted hazelnuts and, with a wink, named the confection Gianduia, a traditional figure in Italian carnival.
